Histoire du Château Grand-Puy Ducasse : Lorsque Arnaud Ducasse acheta, au milieu du XVIIe siècle, à Jacques de Ségur, Seigneur de Lafite, sa petite maison en bordure du fleuve à Pauillac, il ne se doutait point qu’elle deviendrait la base d’un grand domaine qui resterait dans sa famille pendant près de trois siècles. Le véritable “inventeur” du domaine sera Pierre Ducasse, avocat passionné de questions viticoles. Il acquiert des terres à Pauillac et une partie du bourdieu de Grand-Puy qui s’étend sur trois paroisses : Pauillac, Saint-Lambert et Saint- Sauveur et sur trois seigneuries : Lafite, Latour et Beychevelle. Il rassemble, en l’espace d’une année, 1758, son héritage patrimonial de Pauillac, Pibran, Pontet et Artigues Arnaud au bourdieu de Grand-Puy. Il continuera, par de nouveaux achats et échanges, à étendre ses domaines et, à sa mort en 1797, son fils Pierre se retrouve donc, pour la seule commune de Pauillac, à la tête d’une exploitation de soixante hectares dont près des deux tiers sont plantés en vignes, nommée Ducasse- Grand-Puy-Artigues-Arnaud. C’est lui qui fait construire, vers 1820, face à la Gironde, l’actuel château à l’emplacement de la maison de ses aïeuls. Pierre et Jenny Ducasse n’eurent que deux filles, et c’est sous la direction de leur gendre, Adrien Chauvet, que fut classé le domaine en 1855 sous le nom d’Artigues Arnaud. À partir de 1910, suivra une période d’indivision qui aboutira en 1932 à la création d’une Société Civile du nom de Grand- Puy Ducasse. De nouveaux associés reprennent en 1971 l’exploitation alors en bien piteux état. Les années soixante-dix ont été marquées par la restructuration et l’agrandissement du vignoble. En 1980 a commencé la rénovation du cuvier avec réception de vendanges et table de tri. Dès 1982, l’élevage du vin a pu se faire en barriques dont 30 à 40 % sont neuves chaque année. Une importante amélioration a été l’introduction en 1991 de vendanges entièrement manuelles ; les tables de tri se sont alors déplacées à la vigne. Désormais, le Château Grand-Puy Ducasse est reconnu par les plus grands dégustateurs comme l’un des meilleurs Grands Crus de Pauillac. Pour l’attendre, il suffit de déguster son second vin, Prélude à Grand-Puy Ducasse.
